About Us
The South Suburban Police Pistol League was formed in 1967. The
first match was held on Saturday June 10th. It was originally comprised
of law enforcement,
correctional and security officers. Over the years many members retired
or they
desired to have family members or friends join and it has become
primarily a civilian league.
Our matches are held on the first Saturday of each month from 9:00
AM to 6:00 PM with sign-in being cut off at 5:30 PM. Match dates are
occasionally moved to the second Saturday if the first conflicts with a
holiday. We fire both Rim and Center fire matches. You may fire either
one or both calibers. One match may be fired in each caliber for monthly
awards.
A 30-round Hardball match has recently been added as a practice match
only with no awards given.
The course of fire is a modified 30-round National Match course. Slow
Fire 10 rnds. In 5 min., Timed Fire 2 strings of 5 rnds, in 20 sec.
each, Rapid Fire 2 strings of 5 rnds. in 10 sec. each, all fired at 25
yds on B-8 targets.
Trophies are awarded monthly in six classes and in each caliber.
Match Class 285-300, Master Class 265-284, Expert Class 245-264,
Sharpshooter Class 215-244,
Marksman Class 185-214, Tyro 0-184. One trophy is awarded for each six
shooters in a class. Instead of receiving monthly trophies members have
the option of taking cash awards or wall plaques denoting the months in
which they won. Cash and plaques are awarded at the end of the year.
As the league began as a law enforcement club and many members
working rotating shifts were not able to make all 12 matches during the
year it was decided to use their top 7 scores for their year-end averages.
This tradition continues today and it sure makes your year-end average
look good when you can drop out a few low scores.
Year-end awards are presented at our annual banquet held at the end
of January. Members and their spouses are welcome to attend this
banquet. In addition to the year-end awards there are drawings for door
prizes and raffle prizes. |
